…He was saying there’s no proof it’s a scam, not that he doesn’t know by looking at it that it’s a scam through common logic. He’s arguing semantics but TECHNICALLY he has a point.

About the device itself: If anyone claims they can cost-effectively pull nitrogen out of the fucking air and turn it into a suitable cooling liquid, they better release some damn specs on the thing or at least document how that was done before getting everyone to pre-order their shit. No way in hell the components for THAT ALONE costs $400.

      > No way in hell the components for THAT ALONE costs $400.

There’s also the fact that it is completely impossible.

The current best-known performance for an ASIC is the Avalon chips, which hash at somewhere around 300MH/s each, for a power consumption of around 7W per GH. For the fabricated device, they’d have to bear that by three times to fit 1TH/s into a 2800W box. Maybe Avalon isn’t trying hard enough.

Lets talk about cooling then, think about your bar heater at home, that’s probably a 2400W device, a little under what the fake device claims to draw. Now thanks to Newton’s laws, we know that the heat from that can’t go nowhere, so there’s apparently 2.8KW being dispersed by a seemingly tiny box with no ventilation. Right.

So they’re somehow using liquid nitrogen cooling, that sounds chilly. Unfortunately for them, Newton has screwed things up again. To make the liquid nitrogen cool, it needs to be first compressed, which both uses an incredible amount of energy, and produced an equally impressive burst of heat. Think of this setup like putting your bitcoin mining rig in the fridge; sure it will get cold, but you’ll stupidly increase the power bill by making the fridge run faster.

It’s incredible that anybody would buy into this, but they have, there’s at least one person on buttcointalk that wired them the full $15k (no refunds!).

Mining bitcoins is a joke. I can understand investing in bitcoins – but you’re much better off just buying a couple than having a space heater in your room chuggign away in the hopes that you’ll eventually mint yourself a fortune.

If their LN2-making tech actually worked, they’d be selling it to, I don’t know, Alcor to use for actual cryonics.
