I read that whole thread yesterday, there is one guy who is absolutely MAD about bitcoins and us and nobody understands him. Even better is some goon goading him into a frothing bit-rage the entire time

If you think this is well written you must be as deranged as the writer. The lengthy babble comment is completely nonsensical! I am suspecting the writer has no clue about the world or who its inhabitants are.

It was going well, until you start rambling about ‘microfabricating libertarians’ who hate cooperation and process. It’s badly written (there doesn’t seem to have any point), it’s ignorant (libertarians aren’t necessarily opposed to cooperation or process, just when they’re *forced*) and it reeks of prejudice.

The core of the article is correct, bitcoins are not based on anything. All major currencies are either basic on the economic strength of that nation, or pegged to another currency. Bitcoins have nothing to fall back on.

Bitcoin supporters tell me “well it’s based on supply and demand” but the problem is there’s no cost associated with production (well electricity but I’m disregarding that right now) and the demand is completely artificial since bitcoins are simply a (poor) substitute for real currencies. The only thing keeping bitcoin prices up is that everyone sees them as get rich quick scheme and are trying to keep the costs up so they can cash out into USD. No one sees them purely as a currency

You can’t claim it has no cost just because you with to disregard it. It has a very real cost, in fact much higher than almost any other currency (printing 100 dollar bills only costs a few cents).

Wouldn’t it be a enormous risk-taking to try to “corner the market”!?

You will buy coins at a certain price and then try to dictate the rules.
The obvious risk it that the value of bitcoins starts falling drastically when you do this and you and up losing you investment…

your comment makes no fucking sense, ‘Memo to the Bitcoin guys: you can build a community that has some cool microfabricated steam engines and open source software. ‘ working on open source software is the very definition of morals and community

I’m an anarchist. (A minarchist still beats a full-blown statist any day.) I don’t have any “AR15’s”, and I love co-operation. Many criticisms can be mentioned about Bitcoin, but what is the alternative — a single violently imposed currency — where any other currency is outlawed? Is that the “common good” referred to? It’s quite ironic that the author of that post speaks of good-will, while implicitly advocating violence.

It’s an ignorant post, full of strawman arguments and ad hominem (and hypocrisy) — no real substance behind it.

Hahahahaa! Yes, a single currency is totally an evil that must be VIOLENTLY IMPOSED.

No. A single currency is an ideal tool for keeping market-speculating get-rich-quick hucksters, cheaters, and grifters like your whitebread entitled self from exploiting others.
